WE ARE NO BETTER THAN THE NAZIs

Greetings...

According to Einstein imagination is powerful than knowledge...

Imagine that you and I we were not living in 2009. We were not staying in the place where you and me staying now but we were in German late 1930's in which in our daily life we could hear the 'outstanding speeches' of Hitler in radio or short film in local theatre... his speech on Aryan Supremacy, his speech on Third Reich, his speech on 'European Problem', his speech of the unfairness of Versailles Treaty, and imagine that we feel that we were indebted to this ‘guy' because during his time we could feel that our standard of living had been uplifted drastically. We feel that this 'guy' brought all of us to the new era from the humiliation of World War I.

Do you think you and I would joint the NAZI? Do you think that you and I would close one eye on the holocaust event? Do you think that one way or another we would approve the killing of 6 millions Jews under the name of Aryan Supremacy? Or maybe participate voluntarily in the solving the so-called European Problem? Perhaps become one of the soldiers that ushered the Jews to the gas chamber after forced them to dig their own grave. The truth is... it is not impossible if we live in German and live in those years we could joint NAZI, close one eye on the holocaust and even participate in killing the Jews. That is the fact. We could say that Hitler is evil, holocaust is wrong and Aryan Supremacy is one of the most ridiculous propaganda NOW, at this time. We can say that because we are living in different time and different country with no Hitler or anybody resembles him as our leader.

Imagine that we were one of the proud Japanese soldiers in late 1930’s, involves in the occupation of Nanking and other part of China. We are talking about the proud Japanese soldiers that believe in Empire of the Rising Sun is inevitable and any resistance is futile. We are talking about the soldiers that believe in the direction of Emperor Hirohito. We are talking about the soldiers that genuinely believe in the Japanese supremacy against sub-standard race of Chinese. If you are one of the soldiers, can you confidently declare that you will not involves in the killing spree and raping little girls as young as 12 year old? We might do what those Japanese soldiers did under such scenario. Recently I watched a documentary in History Channel where the aging Japanese soldiers that involves in Nanking atrocity had been interviewed secretly [using hidden camera]. Without any remorse they said that the killing and the raping of young girls is justified! It was a war time! They claimed all the Japanese soldiers were doing it, so why not them. They set their benchmark of the value of human life and human dignity to such ridiculous low level. Yet they perceived it as a norm.

Imagine that we are Serbian during the early stage of Balkan War or one of the Hutu in Rwanda during 1993... can we say for sure that we will not participate in the genocides or atrocities that happened in those years. It is a terrible thing to think or to imagine but I sincerely believe under specific scenario we could transform ourselves into someone that we despise in our current time, place and scenario.

Do not get me wrong... Never in my life I approve any killing, what more to say any genocide under whatever name. Not even in the name of my God or my religion. The killing of the Jews by Germans in World War II, Tutsis by the Hutus in Rwanda, Chinese by the Japanese, Bosnians and Croatians by the Serbians, Americans who worked in the World Trade Centre buildings by the Islamic Terrorist, etc. are ALL WRONG no matter what are the reasons. There is no justification for all those ignorance in valuing the existing of each human being. But we could be one of those people who would think that all those killing is okay if our mind and the way of our thinking are developed under the same condition as what all those killers had.

A friend of mine did say to me that George Bush is a devil in disguise. I said to him if I was born in Texas, having circle of friends as what George Bush has, experiencing what George Bush experienced in life, having the same value and belief as what George Bush values and believes... I will definitely do what George Bush is doing now if I was the President of United States. What I want to say here is simple... we as a human being is not entitle to pass any judgment to other people.

Only God has that privilege, not me, not you, not any human being. We could hate all the bad things done by bad people, we might do something about it, but we should not judge them because we actually do not know whether we are better than them or not. In facts according to TASAUF teaching [one of the pillar teachings in Islam besides AQIDAH and FEQAH], we are prohibited to think that we are better than anybody.

Syaidina Umar r.a. [the second Caliph of Islam Empire] once said, ‘If everybody from Adam to the last man alive prior to the Armageddon Day goes to heaven and only one person goes to hell, that one person must be me’. This is the saying of a person that Prophet Muhammad already declared as his friend that guaranteed a place in heaven.

Now… whether you agree with me or not, try to relate what I wrote above with the current event in Gaza Strip. To date, more than 350 people died in Gaza Strip as a result of unfair military attack by the Israelis war force and this happened since couple of weeks ago. Again, killing is wrong no matter what is the reason. But are we entitle to judge the action of such atrocity? The answer is in your own thought.

Thank you for your valuable time.

Dr. Tahoma
